World rapid chess champion Viswanathan Anand beat kid super talent Magnus Carlsen of Norway in the second semifinals by 2.5-0.5 at Leon in Spain on Saturday to enter Sunday's finals.
In the second semifinals, Anand won games one and three with the white pieces and drew the second games with the black pieces. The time control of 20 minutes and ten second increment per move proved a difficult task for Carlsen as he got into time trouble in all the games.
In the first semifinals, Kasimdzhanov had defeated Alexei Shirov 3-1 on Friday. Anand has a good career score against Kasimdzhanov. Anand had beaten him in the World Cup finals at Hyderabad in 2002.
The finals will be played on Sunday morning. In case of a tie there will be a tie-break blitz games to decide the winner. Shorter time controlled games give Anand a natural advantage and he is the favourite.
