Eight Member Indian Team Departs

For the first time, "India Kits" comprising T-shirts, track suit and shoes were given to the Indian Under-16 team that left for Namangan in Uzbekistan on May 27. With the Government of India clearing the trip at full cost, it was really a joyous moment for the players. R.Ralte, the President of the Mizoram Chess Association is the manager of the team. The seven players, G.N.Gopal, Rahul Sangma, K.Vijay Keerthi, India number two Mary Ann Gomes, Soumya Swaminathan, Saheli Nath and I.Ramya Krishna are expected to return with medals and trophies.

The players of the Indian Under-16 chess team were simply jubilant on the occasion of the prize distribution of the Delhi State Chess Championships that finished a day prior to the departure of the 8-member team. The players were traditionally welcomed during the prize distribution ceremony while R.Ralte and Rashmi Singh, the moving spirit behind Delhi Chess Association gave away the prizes to the winners. Apart from regular cash prizes and trophies to the winners, National Under-9 champion Sahaj Grover was given a special cash award of Rs.5,000 by Bharat Singh Chauhan, Joint secretary AICF, for winning the National title last year.
