FIDE makes D.V.Sundar General Secretary for Asia
The FIDE Presidential Board which met today at Doha in Qatar under the Presidentship of His Excellency Kirsan Ilyumzhinov made a surprise move nominating the All India Chess Federation Secretary Mr. D.V.Sundar, 54, as the General Secretary of the Asian Chess Federation.

The Presidential Board also approved the action of Mr Khalifa Mohamed Al-Hitmi, Continental President for Asia, in granting recognition to the AICF headed by Mr N.Srinivasan as President and Mr D.V.Sundar as Secretary. Hereafter all correspondence with FIDE from India will be only through Mr D.V.Sundar.

In another related move, FIDE removed the erstwhile Asian Chess Federation General Secretary Derrick Pereira of Sri Lanka for sending misleading, irresponsible pro-Koya e-mails to several Indian chess officials and players during the period following the Madras High Court order of January 31, 2005 restraining P.T.Ummer Koya.

The nomination of D.V.Sundar of Chennai as Secretary of the Asian Chess Federation came as a big surprise to Mr Sundar himself as well as to Mr Bharat Singh Chauhan and Mr Ravi Dongre who had accompanied him to Doha. Mr Sundar returns to Chennai tomorrow morning.
