Kruttika Nadig Reaches A Milestone

Kruttika Nadig became the first Woman International Master from Karnataka when she completed her third and final norm in the Pardubice Open on Saturday.

Kruttika Nadig, 17, completed her first 11-game round robin WIM norm in the strongest National Women A ever held in Kozhikode 2003. Her second norm was a 13-game Swiss norm from the World Junior Girls Championship at Kochi in November 2004. Requiring a third norm to complete her mission, she scored 4/9 for a WIM norm and title.

Kruttika is the youngest WIM from her native Maharashtra state and the first in Karnatake where she studies. Her favourite players are Fischer and Kasparov. She hopes to complete the WGM title in the next six months.

Her career best placing is the fourth place she got in the World Junior girls championship last year. She learnt her moves from mother Devika Nadig and got the early guidance from Mohan Phadke in Pune. Currently on a tour in Central Europe, she hopes to become a WGM before she returns.

Kruttika is talented and also won the Infosys Young Achiever Award for Under-18 this year. She was the winner after a series of rounds involving 500 participants from all over the nation.
