welcomes new office bearers

World chess champion Viswanathan Anand made a rare public
appearance when he turned up for the All India Chess
Federation's function to introduce its newly elected office
bearers at Hotel Ambassador Pallava in Chennai on June 30, 2011.

Anand, wished the new team headed by J.C.D. Prabhakar
(President), Bharat Singh Chauhan (Secretary) and R.M. Dongre
(Treasurer) all the best and hoped they will bring new events
and ideas into the game. Anand was called upon to garland the
trio and offer them a shawl each.

If sportsmen are considered for the award of Bharat Ratna, Anand
will be the first candidate for it, said D.V. Sundar who
welcomed him at a luncheon hosted by the AICF to introduce the
newly elected AICF Office Bearers. Sundar called Anand as
India's greatest sporting Ambassador.

J.C.D. Prabhakar of Chennai, said he hoped his team will do well
to popularise the game in the country. He commended Sundar for
his tremendous work in the AICF in the past six years.
International Master S.C. Sahu from Orissa who was elected Vice
President wished Anand all the best in his match against Boris
Gelfand. Sahu, since taking over as President of the Orissa
Chess has made sure there is a regular Grand Master tournament
there.

Bharat Singh thanked the members for electing him to this
coveted office and said that he will do his best to emulate the
good work done by his predecessor D.V.Sundar
The new team in the AICF consists of more players and should be
stronger in chess strength! It has Dibyendu Barua as Vice
President. The officials are widely represented from all the
regions of India.
The introduction was attended by various dignitories: S. Ganesan,
Narayana Rao (Jawahar Vidyalaya), several chess officials from
across the nation, media.
