The Delhi chess fraternity is extremely happy to see India win
bronze medal in the world team championship.
This is by far the greatest6 achievement by us after Anand’s
world title wins in different formats.
For the past few years, we have been living with the dream of
getting a medal in the Chess Olympiad. This we feel is much
greater achievement as only the best continental and world class
teams participate in this event.
I think we owe a big thanks to our players and especially
Sasikiran who led the team brilliantly. His own victories
against Aronian and Gashimov were also very special as we are
sure it would have boosted the confidence of other team members.
It was simply out of the blue that we got a chance. Chinese
withdrew at the last minute and AICF quickly constructed the
best available team. It was not enough as the weather tried to
play spoilsport. Flights were delayed and in fact, it was
against all odds that we managed to reach there.
Thereafter it was left to the boys and wow….it was simply an
amazing performance. The self belief that we can do it complied
with a good leader in Sasikiran and of course the immense
experience of our coach Lev Psakhis…everything turned out to be
a perfect chemistry.
I on behalf of AICF and DCA, would like congratulate our team.
Way to go boys…there are Asian games coming up…and then later
this year there is Chess Olympiad…surely we will see you winning
more and more medals for the country.
