Akhade in the opening round of the 37th National Women's Chess
Challenger being played at Guwahati on August 20.
The Rs. 125,000 prize money event is a qualifier for the
National Premier to be held from Oct 16-25 in Orissa. The top 20
advance to the premier event. There are 20 prizes and the event
has attracted 84 entries. The first prize is Rs.30,000.
In another game, Riya Sawant defeated higher rated Ch Divyasri
after making a splendid combination with her knight to win a
rook.
There are ten more rounds still to be played. All Assam Chess
Association is organising this event.
After the National 'B' for men in 1982, and the National 'A' for
men in 1983 at Tripura, the National 'B' was held at Mizoram in
Aizawl in 1986 in the North-East, this is the next major
National event to be held in this region.

all the rating tournaments should be registered 30 days in
advance. We therefore request all the organizers / State chess
associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to
organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India
Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to
