Air India wins National Club Team
Chess Championship

Gurgaon (27 Feb 10) :- Air India beat Tata Consultancy Services
4 -0 in the ninth and final round of the 30th National Club Team
Chess Championship to successfully close the campaign with
perfect score of 18 match points and take home the Winners
Trophy along with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/- at DAV Public
School here on today. Air India team comprises of Parimarjan
Negi, Tejas Bakre, Satyapragyan, Rahul Shetty and G B Joshi won
the championship by beating all its opponents in this nine round
swiss competition. Meanwhile its a forgettable outing for the
mighty Petroleum Sports Promotion Board comprises of K Sasi
Kiran, S Arun Prasad, S Kidambi, Abhijit Kunte and Deepan
Chakkravarthy as they satisfied with second spot finish and
provided Air India with memories to cherish as they achieved the
honours after a gap of six years. Air India, then Indian
Airlines won the title way back in 2004 at Pune. PSPB beat Life
Insurance Corporation of India 3.5 - .5 in the ninth round.
Railway Sports Promotion Board A team and B team tied for
the third spot with 13 match points but better tie break score
helped Railway A to secure third position.
Grandmaster K Sasikiran of PSPB won the board prize in first
board while Grandmaster Tejas Bakre of Air India, International
Master Anup Deshmukh of LIC, Grandmaster Abhijit Kunte of PSPB
and Dhanunjay Rao of Services Sports Control Board won the
second, third, fourth and fifth board prizes respectively.
In the womens category, Tamilnadu defeated Life Insurance
Corporation of India 4-0 in the final round and take the runner
up trophy as Dibeyandu Barua Chess Academy had a rest day today
and assured the title yesterday itself. LIC finished third with
4 match points.
Shri. Oscar Fernandes and Smt. Blossom Oscar Fernandes gave away
the prizes in the befitting closing ceremony in presence of Shri.
Rao Daan Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary.
