Rucha Pujari Wins Title

National Sub-Junior champion Rucha Pujari of Maharashtra won the National Women Challengers Championship that concluded at Assam on August 28.



In the final round, Rucha, the eighth seed pipped Amruta Mokal of Pune to win the title with nine points after the eleventh and final round. Rucha defeated Sithalatchumi of Madurai in a minor pieces ending to win the title on Saturday.



Leader Amruta faced the Scandinavian defence but hurled her pawn forward and lost pawns as white and went down to Sonakshi Rathore. Sonakshi was one of the best players by rating.



Rucha lost to Amruta in the mutual encounter but 1994-born, won the last two games to take home Rs.30,000 and the winner trophty. A total of 84-players took part in this Rs.1.25 lakh prize fund event.

Seven players from Tamil Nadu and five from Maharashtra qualified. Clearly these two states were dominant in this edition. The top 20 players qualified for the National Premier which is to take place at Orissa from October 16 this year.

Final placings (tie-break order, all qualifiers): 1 Rucha Pujari (Mah) 9/11; 2 Amruta Mokal (Mah) 8.5; 3 Sonakshi Rathore (Raj) 8; 4 S. Harini (TN) 7.5; 5-20. R. Bharathi (TN), B. Pratyusha (AP), Pallabi Roy (WB), J. Saranya, J. Mohana Priya, A. Sithalatchumi (all TN), Shweta Gole (Mah), Ivana Furtado (Goa), Devangi Patankar (Mah), Swati Mohota (WB), A. Akshaya, R. Preethi (both TN), Bhagyashree Thipsay (Mah), Arunima Kalra (Del), Minki Sinha (Bih), C. Sahajasri (AP) 7 each.

May 06 2010 - Please be informed that the FIDE has announced that, here after all the rating tournaments should be registered 30 days in advance. We therefore request all the organizers / State chess associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to allot the FIDE  / AICF event code for the event.   Download the Bidform
