India ranked Fifth in the World by
FIDE
By Arvind Aaron
FIDE provides plenty of statistics on its website. One of them
is the average rating of top ten players of each country. India
stands fifth in this list with 2641. Russia, Ukraine, China and
France are ahead of us in that order.
Among women, India is sixth with 2393. Only Russia, China,
Georgia, Ukraine, Hungary are ahead of us. India winning the
bronze medal in the World Team Championship on maiden attempt
and the Asian Gold at Doha in 2006 are signs of our big progress
in the team front. AICF's thrust on organizing many rating and
International tournaments, is helping us reach higher in the
World Chess ladder.

maintained his No.1 place with 2813 while Anand moved from third
place to fourth place in the March FIDE rank list.

world champion Vladimir Kramnik moved from fourth place to third
place after his second finishing at Wijk aan Zee.
