Grandmaster Viktor Laznicka played a marathon
game against Dutch Grandmaster Leok Van Welly in the final round
game of the 38th World Open 2010 which concluded on Monday here
in Valley Forge, near Philadelphia. Van Welly tried hard to win
the game to o crack and agreed for a draw. Viktor Laznicka, who
finished with 7.5 points from 9 games, lifted the coveted Title
and a Prize tag of $20,000/-
On the 2nd board Grandmaster Pentala Harikrishna played against
M Kazheshievli and was lucky to beat his opponent with black
pieces. He took the 2nd place followed by Grandmasters Luke
McShane and Ilya Smirin who also won their games against their
opponents and finished at 7 points.
GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly and GM Sandipan Chanda drew their games
while GM P Magesh won his last encounter to take his score to 5
points. GM Sundaraja Kidambi was unfortunate to loose against a
lower rated FM. Deepak Aaron, Grand son of IM Manuel Aaron with
a low rating of 2142 gave a creditable performance in the
Grandmasters Open Section getting 5 points and finished on 44th
place ahead of GM Sundaraja Kidambi who wound up on 4 points .
Under 2400 category IM C S Gokhle finished with 7 points and
came 2nd jointly with 4 other players. A large number of Indian
expatriates could be seen playing in differt categories.
As many as 34 Grandmasters battled for 7 days in this biggest
Chess event of the world having over 1500 chess players from all
over the world participating in various categories.

associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to
organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India
Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to
