Sasikiran Finishes Fifth

Seed 13 Krishnan Sasikiran of Chennai finished fifth in the Moscow Open A Group that took place in Moscow from Jan 30 to Feb 7. He played at an Elo rating performance of 2723.

Four players tied for the first place on 7/9 and it includes Konstantin Chernyshov, Evgeny Bareev (both Rus), LeQuang Liem (Vie), Ernesto Inarkiev (Rus). Chernyshov, 42, was declared champion for scoring the most wins.

Sasikiran scored 6.5 points and tied for the 5-14 places and took the fifth place. This is Sasikiran's second 2700+ rating performance in a row after the World Team Championship at Bursa in Turkey last month.

Sasikiran lost to Le Quang Liem of Vietnam in the penultimate round and drew Bareev in the final round to finish on 6.5/9 and take the fifth place. Sasikiran who was above 2700 rated after the Asian Games at Doha 2006 is moving back into that direction after slipping to 2653.

This tournament Group A had 184 players and is held prior to the Aeroflot Open in Moscow and always manages to  attract plenty of top players. This event had four sections and 859 players with players from 34 countries. Total of 78 GMs, 18 WGMs, 70 IMs, 17 WIMs took part.

May 06 2010 - Please be informed that the FIDE has announced that, here after all the rating tournaments should be registered 30 days in advance. We therefore request all the organizers / State chess associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to allot the FIDE  / AICF event code for the event.   Download the Bidform
