REPORT AT THE END OF ROUND 9
International Master Shyam Sundar of India and WFM Vo Thi Kim
Phung of Vietnam won the Stree Seva Mandir Asian Junior & Asian
Junior Girls Chess Championships respectively.
On the final round today Shyam Sundar edged out IM Vidit Santosh
Gujrati to win the Asian Junior Chess Championship. In a tense
middle game from the Moscow attack Shyam allowed Nitin gain some
initiative on the king side. In a unclear position , unwilling
to take risks the players signed a truce in 25 moves.Shyam
scored 7 points and wins the gold medal. Vidit accepting a piece
sacrifice from Mehar Chinna Reddy, defended well to finish
runner up with 7points and run away with the Silver Medal. Nitin
won the bronze medal , playing steadily throughout the
tournament and and tying with Shyam and Vidit on 7 points.
WFM Vo Thi Kim Phung of Vietnam won the gold medal in the girls
section with a better tie break than Nakhbayeva Guliskhan of
Kazakhstan with 7.5 points apiece . Vo Thi playing the safer
exchange variation of the queen’s gambit against Preethi with
white pieces. Vo Thi won the game in 64 moves as Preethi was
playing an inferior endgame, once the queens were off the board
. Meanwhile Nakhbayeva outplayed Tay Li of Singapore in an
attacking game. The game ended in 49 moves in former’s favour
and the Kazakh player gets a silver medal. The lone medal came
in the form of bronze when WIM Padmini Rout was held to draw by
Nandhidaa in 61 moves.
World Champion Viswanathan Anand was felicitated by Tamilnadu
State Chess Association in a glittering ceremony. His Excellency
Mr. Sheikh Sultan Al-Nahyan, President, Asian Chess Federation,
Mr. Ignatius Leong, General Secretary, FIDE, Mr. Hisham Ali
Taher, Secretary, Asian Chess Federation and a host of other
dignitaries showered their praises on the World Champion. Vishy
Anand was at his usual modest self and thanked everyone for
their support and blessings.

all the rating tournaments should be registered 30 days in
advance. We therefore request all the organizers / State chess
associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to
organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India
Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to
