World Chess Championship for
the Blind - 2010

The world chess championship for
the blind is going on at Belgrade Serbia. India’s Darpan
registered his 2nd win of the tournament today; with additional
draw his point tally is 2.5 out of 3. With the score of 2.5, he
shared joint second spot after 3rd round.
Darpan playing with white showed tremendous control on slightly
advantages position and held his nerves till end to register
thumping win against M. Chojnowski (2162) of Poland. Darpan
played Pelican defense and took advantage of strategic mistake
of his opponent and encashed this advantage into win in 48
moves.
Ashwin Makwana drew his game with M. Vulin (2079) of Serbia to
take his tally to 1.5. Playing with black, Ashwin responded with
center counter defense. Game lasted 51 moves both the players
agreed draw when on the board they had alternative colour
bishop.
Shrikrishna Udupa lost his second consecutive game. Playing with
black he made calculative mistake in a game started with
Najdroff defense. His opponent U. Tadic from Serbia played
tactical game to beat Udupa.
Rajesh Oza also lost second game of the tournament, playing with
white Rajesh open with King’s Indian attack but could not hold
the initiative due to time pressure and lost on time.
After 3rd round tally of Indian team, Darpan Inani 2.5, Ashwin
Makwana 1.5, udupa Shrikrishna 1, Rajesh Oza 1. In forth and
crucial round Darpan is playing with WIM L Zsiltzova of Ukrain
(2298), former world women champion and gold medalist in recent
Olympiad.
