Ganguly Falters at Negroponte 2010

Turkish Grandmaster and Championship Leader Suat Atalik continued to remain in the Drivers seat of the Ist Negrponte 2010 Chess Championship when he defeated 2nd Seed India’s Surya Sekhar Ganguly in the 7th Round. This Is Ganguly’s Ist defeat in the tournament. Ganguly will play against GM Adam Tukhaev of Ukraine in the penultimate Round.

Sandipan Chanda somehow escaped a defeat when despite being three pawn dowm he managed to equalise and got a valuable half point.

Besides Ganguly, Vishnu Prasanna,Abhijeet Gupta and Tania Sachdev lost their games. GM Deepan Chakravarthy after loosing two games drawing two games in succession finaly emerged winner when he defeated Anna Maria , a low rated player with 1649 elo points. Somaya Swaminathan and Vaibhav Suri were the other two Indians who registered their victories.

GM Suat Atalik is now leading the championship with 6.5/7 and is half a point ahead of Robert Hess Zaven Andriasian and Vladmir Burmahkin on 2nd place and a long list of 8 players on 5.5 point

We therefore request all the organizers / State chess associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to allot the FIDE  / AICF event code for the event.   Download the Bidform
