The All India Chess Federation Central Council
decided to give one seeding to the National Junior
Champion in boys and girls to the National Premier
Championship and
National Women's Premier championship and scrap the seeding
to the National Challengers Championship and National Women's
Challengers.
The above seeding is justified since players seeded
already to the National Premier Championship are likely to interfere in
the qualifier and disturb chances of qualifiers in
future Challengers events. The AICF Central Council Meeting was
held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on September 26.
Hold District Championships: Sundar
D.V. Sundar, the Honorary Secretary, of AICF appealed to
the State Associations to ensure that District
Championships are held regularly and results sent to the AICF website for everybody to see. Sundar commended the
activities of the Tamil Nadu state and said the Tamil
Nadu Secretary knows each district champion by name. Out
of the 3,000 AICF Registered players, 1200 come from
Tamil Nadu alone, Sundar pointed out.
"Chess India League", a proposal from AICF Vice
President R.M.Dongre came up at this meeting. The
highlight of this is to have a league of 8 teams with
eight players per team and classical control with a
prize money of Rs.15 lakhs. Each team was allowed three
foreigners, two women etc.
The AICF decided to form a committee comprising Dibyendu
Barua (Kolkata), Abhijit Kunte (Pune), Manuel Aaron
(Chennai), Bharat Singh Chauhan (Delhi), D.V. Sundar (convenor,
Chennai) and R.M. Dongre (Mumbai) to look into the Chess
India League proposal.
