Defending champions India suffered a defeat at the hands
of top seed Russia by 1-3 in the fifth round of
the World Youth Chess Olympiad being played at Turkey on
Sep 28.
Second seed India faced a strong team and all four of
our players were lower rated than their counterparts.
Priyadharshan and Deethamsh Reddy drew on the top and
bottom boards against higher rated Russian opponents.
We were defeated in the middle boards. Debashis Das and
Aditya Udeshi lost in this occasion. Girish Koushik was
rested for this game. India face Asian opponent in
Uzbekistan in the sixth round on Sep 28 afternoon.
After five of the total nine rounds, India is leading on
points with 14.5/20 while Russia is in second
place along with Uzbekistan on 13.5 points. In match
points, Russia is ahead on nine points and India is in
second place along with Azerbaijan on eight points from

all the rating tournaments should be registered 30 days in
advance. We therefore request all the organizers / State chess
associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to
organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India
Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to
