International Master K. Ratnakaran of Southern Railway,
Kozhikode won the 2nd RSC FIDE Rated Open at Kochi on
Sep 24. He had won the first edition in 2007 as well.
Ratnakaran is a 1981-born chess player who comes from a
family in poultry business. He was rated 2488, his
highest in April 2008 and has presently started to
arrest the decline in his rating.
Ratnakaran's present rating is 2441. He picked up
Rs.25,000 with a final round draw against former Kerala
champion FIDE Master M.B. Muralidharan. Ratnakaran won
seven games and drew D.P. Singh, O.T. Anilkumar and M.B.
Muralidharan for the title. Ratnakaran, D.P. Singh and
O.T. Anilkumar remained undefeated. This event ran from
Sep 19-24 and was a 171-player 10 round Swiss. M.
Ephrame of Kanyakumari was the chief arbiter. Various
special prizes were given.

all the rating tournaments should be registered 30 days in
advance. We therefore request all the organizers / State chess
associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to
organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India
Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to
