Ninth seed Woman Grand Master Soumya Swaminathan of Pune
defeated second seed Xiaowen Zhang of China in the ninth
round to share the lead with Iozefina Paulet of Romania
on seven points. The World Junior and World Junior Girls
Championships is happening at Puerto Madryn in
Argentina.
Top seed Mary Ann Gomes (4.5/9) of Kolkata had a reverse
at the hands of WIM Mathilde Congiu of France. Sixth
seed World Girls Under-14 champion Padmini Rout of
Orissa also lost but to higher seeded WIM Deysi Cori
Tello of Peru. In the winner column were S. Harini
(4.5/9) and Kiran Manisha Mohanty (5.5/9).
India had won both boys and girls titles last year at
Turkey and there is great hopes from our players. Our
boys did not have a good ninth round. None of the six
managed to win. Our hope and World Under-16 champion
Baskaran Adhiban drew fellow Chennai player P.
Karthikeyan. M.R. Lalith Babu also drew and all three of
them are on five points from nine rounds.
Asian Junior champion Ashwin Jayaram lost to a higher
rated Chinese player to stay on 4.5 points. Shyam Sundar
featured in a drawn game against a lower rated player
while Vishnu Prasanna drew a higher rated opponent. Both
have moved to 4.5 points.
French top seed Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Sergei
Zhigalko of Belarus are leading with 7.5/9.

advance. We therefore request all the organizers / State chess
associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to
organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India
Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to
