A costly defeat in the twelfth and penultimate round has
left Soumya Swaminathan of Pune tied for the second and
third place with 8.5 points. A victory in the final
round will assure her of a medal though. Depending upon
what the Turkish leader does in the final round,
Soumya's medal colour will change. Kiran Manisha Mohanty
of Orissa faces leader Betul Yildiz of Turkey and she
can do Soumya a favour by winning her final round.
Ninth seed Soumya lost to third seeded Deysi Cori Tello
of Peru with the black pieces. That left Betul Yildiz (Tur)
in lead with 9/12. Cori Tello and Soumya share the
second place with 8.5 points. Three players share the
fourth place and it includes: WGM Iozefina Paulet (Rom),
Zoja Severiukhina (Rus) and Xiaowen Zhang (Chn). Further
behind on 7.5 points are Padmini Rout and Kiran Mohanty
of India. Top seed Mary Ann Gomes is on seven points.
India's dominance of the World Junior Girls Championship
is clear that four of our players occupy the top six
boards in the final round. It will be fitting only if
India retains this title. Soumya plays better with white
and she gets white in the final round. Kiran also has
white on the top board against Yildiz.
The final round will take place on Nov 3, Argintine time
at 10 a.m.
Third seed Sergei Zhigalko of Belarus has moved into
sole lead in the World Junior with 10/12. Half a point
behind is Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France on 9.5. Both
of them sit behind white pieces in the final round and
face Russian opponents who have 8.5 points.
Four Indian boys are tied for the 25th place on 6.5
points. It includes: B. Adhiban, Ashwin Jayaram, P.
Karthikeyan (all Chennai) and M.R. Lalith Babu (AP).
Shyam Sundar (6) and Vishnu Prasanna (5.5) are further
behind.
