The All India Chess Federation, its President N.
Srinivasan, Hon.Secretary D.V. Sundar and office
bearers of AICF greet the Indian chess
players on the eve of Diwali. May the festival of
lights which symbolises victory of good over evil bring
more success and propel our players to aspire and achieve
more laurels for the country.
From the Diwali of 2008 to Diwali 2009, India has
achieved plenty in chess which other nations can only
envy. Significant is the World Title won by Viswanathan
Anand against Vladimir Kramnik at Bonn a few days after
last Diwali. Digitally speaking, Indian growth can
be measured from the number of active players in the
FIDE file. As on date, India has 12540, the most in any
Asian country or English speaking (next is USA with
5347) country. Only a hand full of nations are above us:
France 22,327, Spain 21,312, Germany 19,816 and Russia
15,913.
Congratulations for these achievements and may the
coming new year bring more success
