All India Chess Technical Conference, Bhubaneswar

All India Chess Technical Conference, Bhubaneswar

By R.Anantharam, International Arbiter

The third All India Chess Technical Conference and the examination for the award of the Senior Arbiter title were organized by the Orissa Chess Ad-hoc Committee on behalf of All India Chess Federation, at Bhubaneswar from 29th to 31st December. Fifteen participants from seven states took part in the three day conference, with zeal and enthusiasm. Mr. K. Muralimohan, international arbiter and secretary of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and Prof.R. Anantharam, international arbiter and member, SPP Commission, FIDE were the resource persons.

The aspirants for the senior arbiter title were trained on various topics like Laws of Chess, Rating regulations, Title regulations, Arbiter regulations etc. At the end of the seminar on the third day, the participants attended the examination and it was like a University examination, participants being provided with separate tables, well spaced away from each other. Ten participants came out with flying colours, scoring the required minimum of 80%.

The Orissa Chess Ad-hoc Committee has added one more important event in its hectic activities in 2009, which include the organization of a GM Open in June. No wonder, their hard work is yielding fruitful results. The emergence of four new senior arbiters from Orissa, in addition to the existing one FA, will surely be helpful to the successful conduct of tournaments in the state. Mr. A.K. Mukherjee, Chairman of the Adhoc Committee, Mr. Manoj Panigrahi, Convener, Mr. Vivek, Mr. Subrato Dash, IM Sekha Sahu and Mr. Saroj Kumar Behera and other members were actively involved in the smooth organisation of the conference.
