World
Youth Chess Championships 2009 - By K.Visweswaran
& D.V.Prasad
Antalya,
Turkey November 12-23
Shreyans
Daklia , the unassuming lad from Chattisgarh gave the
first booster to the Indian launch pad at the World
Youth chess championships 2009. Taking GM Ter-Sahakyan
Samvel of Armenia on the 4th board, Shreyans scored a
resounding 46 move victory over. Responding to the
Grandmaster’s Sicilian with the Rosolimo system,
Shreyans kept increasing his space control. In n vague
attempt to obtain some freedom for his pieces and maybe
create some counter play, Black let go a pawn. However
his worst was yet to come when Shreyans orchestered his
pieces for a King side attack while Black Queen was
huddled on the other corner. Finally White’s domination
was so powerful that he threatened Black with mate
without even a single sacrifice. The Armenian
Grandmaster resigned a few moves before we could have
the pleasure of a seeing a Single rook mate. Four
official coaches GM R B Ramesh, IM D V Prasad, IM K
Murugan, WGM R Aarthie are supporting 56-player Indian
contingent apart from an almost equal number of
accompanying persons and personal trainers which
includes RV Gokhale, GB Joshi, K Visweswaran, Argyadip
Das, Akash Thakur and others. Prof. Anantharam &
Nandakumar are officiating in the championship as Deputy
Arbiter and section Arbiter respectively.
