Shardul stuns Sayantan; four
players share lead

New Delhi (15 Dec 09) :- Third seed and overnight joint
leader Sayantan Das of West Bengal suffered a shock
defeat from the hands of Fide Master Shardul Gagare of
Maharashtra in the crucial seventh round encounter of
the open section of the ongoing 23rd National Under-13
(Open & Girls) Chess Championship here at Bapu Samaj
Sewa Kendra on Tuesday. Playing black side of Sicilian
accelerated dragon variation, Shardul overcame his
fancied rival in 46 moves. In the another crucial
seventh round encounter, former world under-10 champion
Girish A Koushik of Karnataka signed the peace treaty
with last year runner up Utkal Ranjan Sahoo of Orissa on
top board. Girish, Sahoo and Shardul along with
Tamilnadu lad S Kaushik, who beat Abir Sinha of Delhi
are now leads the table with 6 points after the end of
seventh round.
Meanwhile in the girls section, second seed Nadhidhaa PV
of Tamilnadu, Lasya G of Andhrapradesh and Nisha N
Patkar of Karnataka are jointly share the lead with 6
points at the end of seventh round matches. At the top
board, playing with white pieces, Nisha displayed a
solid attacking game in Sveshinikov variation of
Sicilian Defence to defeat Bala Kannamma of Tamilnadu in
35 moves. While Nadidhaa got better of team mate Meenu
Priya and Lasya defeated Michelle Catherina of Tamilnadu.

all the rating tournaments should be registered 30 days in
advance. We therefore request all the organizers / State chess
associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to
organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India
Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to
