IM Vidit Gujrathi Stuns GM Neelotpal Das and Lead remains status quo

IM Vidit Gujrathi Stuns GM Neelotpal Das and Lead remains status quo
By Vittal Madhav

Lead remained status quo, as the former world under 16 champion B. Adhiban of PSPB is leading the table with 8.5 points, followed by Sriram Jha of Delhi with 8 points at the end of the eleventh round of the National Premier Chess Championship, being organized by Venus Chess Academy hosted by Goregaon Sports Club and conducted by Bombay Chess Association.

The talking point of the round eleven was the game between national sub junior champion Vidit Santosh Gujrathi and the PSPB grandmaster Neelotpal Das from Kolkata. Vidit has to win the next round against Sundarrajan Kidambi of PSPB to secure his GM norm. A 24th move blunder by Neelotpal cost him the match in a Slav defence game chosen by Vidit. With this win, Vidit is placed on the third position with 7.5 points.

The game between IM S P Sethuraman and GM R R Laxman started with Nimzo Indian Defense. On 22nd move Laxman played his rook instead of moving the Knight, which was a blunder. When Laxman observed that mate is unavoidable, he accepted his defeat in 28 moves.

Adhiban and Sriram Jha were content with draws against former world junior champion Abhijeet Gupta and Prathamesh Mokhal of Maharashtra respectively on the top two boards.
