Himanshu upsets Abhijit

On the day of 47th Premier National Chess Championship 09 Sponsored and organized by Venus Chess Academy and hosted by Goregaon Sports Club six players are sharing the lead with 2.5 points.

On the top table IM Sriram Jha (ELO 2479) of Delhi playing with white pieces opted for Semi-slav meran variation against GM Arun Prasad(ELO 2570) of Tamilnadu. The game meandered to a draw in 30 moves.

On the 2nd table GM S Kidambi (ELO 2516) of Tamilnadu played against Tejas Bakre( ELO 2474) of Gujarat. Tejas accepted the Queens Gambit and played the classical line. Kidambi was having a slight advantage in the middlegame but Tejas managed to get the positions even and drew the game in 30 moves

On the 3rd table IM Vidit Gujrathi (ELO 2459) of Maharashtra had a good day as he drew his game against the top seed of the tournament GM Gopal G N (ELO 2593) of Kerala in 22 moves by forcing repetition of position thrice.

On the 4th board IM Thejkumar M S (ELO 2453) playing with black opted for Budapest Gambit against GM Abhijit Gupta (ELO 2578) of Rajasthan. Abhijit made a fianchetto on the King Side and launched a pawn storm on the queen side winning the game in 25 moves.

On the 5th board IM Himanshu Sharma (ELO 2469) playing with black replied with Slav Defense to GM Abhijit Kunte’s (ELO 2522) move d4. The game was equally poised till the middle game. On the 21st move Abhijit played an incorrect move of Bishop and lost a piece on 27th move. Though he was having 2 extra pawns in compensation he lost them and the game in 44 moves.

We therefore request all the organizers / State chess associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to allot the FIDE  / AICF event code for the event.   Download the Bidform
