Rogelio Antonio of the Philippines moved into sole lead
with seven points from nine rounds in the Asian
Individual Chess Championship on May 21. He enjoys a
half point lead over others including GM Sandipan Chanda
and GM S.S. Ganguly. Two rounds remain to be played in
this competition which comes to a close on May 23.
Tied for the second place on 6.5 points are four players
including Chanda and Ganguly. Two Chinese Hou Yifan and
GM Zhou Weiqi are on 6.5 points as well. In the tenth
round, Ganguly faces Antonio with the white pieces and
it might give him a chance to win and wrest lead. Top
seed Krishnan Sasikiran of Chennai is tied for the sixth
place on six points. Undefeated Abhijit Kunte is also on
six points as well.
In the women's competition, WIM Zhang Xiawen of China
sailed into a one point lead by defeating WGM Swati
Ghate of Pune with the black piees. She moved to 7.5/9
while two other Chinese players are in second-third
place with 6.5 points. This section is clearly dominated
by the Chinese. Chennai's Meenakshi Subbaraman moved to
fourth place on six points. Meenakshi has scored 4/5 and
is looking good to score more. Indians: Swati Ghate,
Eesha Karavade 5.5 each, Tania Sachdev 5, Nisha Mohota
4.5, Kruttika Nadig 4.

all the rating tournaments should be registered 30 days in
advance. We therefore request all the organizers / State chess
associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to
organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India
Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to
