CATEGORY TOURNAMENTS TO BE HELD AS PART OF PREPARING OUR MEN & WOMEN TEAM
FOR ASIAN INDOOR 2009 & ASIAN GAMES 2010
The All India Chess Federation held its Central Council Meeting at Chennai
on the 10th March, 2009 and some of the important decisions adopted are
listed below.
At the Presidential Board Meeting of the FIDE at Turkey, the request for
chess academy by our Federation, has been acceded to and we hope to
establish the FIDE INDIA CHESS ACADEMY ( FICA) before the end of the year.
Our request for a separate zone within Asian Continent is also receiving
the attention of FIDE and we hope India will be getting an independent
zone status.
Grand Master R.B.Ramesh was nominated to replace Manuel Aaron as a member
of the selection committee of the All India Chess Federation. Manuel Aaron
has withdrawn himself since becoming Government observer for chess last
month. The other selectors are, Raghunandan Gokhale(Mah) and Ashwini
Tiwari(Pun).
Mr. C.G.S.Narayanan a well known problemist and the present Asst. Editor
of AICF CHRONICLE will take over as the Editor after Mr.Manuel Aaron
quits.
Decision was taken to increase the Prize money for all the Age group
National Championships.
It has been made mandatory for all players below 2650 ELO in Open Category
and below 2500 ELO in case of Women to play in the National B / National A
Championships to be in race for selections for Senior India teams. Though
the criteria of such selection is rating, players are still directed to
play Nationals to be able to be in race for the team selection.
As part of the preparation of the Indian players for the Asian Indoor
chess Championship to be held in Vietnam in Oct 2009 and the Asian Games
in China in 2010, AICF would be organising two Category tournaments for
men and women with the participation of Indian and foreign players in the
events.
A Committee consisting of Mr.R.M.Dongre, Vice President AICF, Mr.Bharat
Singh, Treasurer AICF, Grandmasters Dibyendu Barua and Abhijit Kunte, was
formed to study the format of all our National Championships and suggest
changes if necessary and present a report on this, before the next
meeting.
Another committee consisting of Mr.R.M.Dongre, Mr.Bharat Singh,
Mr.R.V.Gokhale was formed to assist the Secretary in scrutinizing the
applications received by the Federation for Arjuna, Dronacharya and other
awards and to recommend the deserving candidates to the Government. It was
also decided any request for such awards should not be mechanically
forwarded to the Government. Only meritorious players who come under the
ambit of the rules governing such awards should be forwarded.
The Orissa State Chess Association has been disaffiliated and expelled by
the All India Chess Federation for its acts of omissions and commissions
and placed under a 5 member AD-Hoc Committee to be headed by Mr.Asit
Mukherjee as Chairman, the only two International Masters of Orissa
Mr.S.C.Sahu and Mr.Satyapragyan, Current Orissa State Champion Mr.Manoj
Kumar Panigrahi – Convenor and Mr.Saroj Kishore Behara.
