open with a fighting win over Grand Master Milos
Pavlovic (2535) of Serbia in the 8th and the penultimate
round to be in joint lead with GM Van den Doel and GM
Savchenko on 6.5 points.
Young Harini from Tamil Nadu also completed her
formalities for an International Woman Master norm
irrespective of her last round result.
Shreyansh Daklia caused a mini upset beating higher
rated IM Slingerland of Netherlands. A draw in the final
round would give him an IM norm. Playing white side of
Sicilian Rosolimo variation Daklia did not get any
advantage from the opening but in the ending he obtained
a good Knight versus bad Bishop position which after
long conversion got him the win to move into joint
second position with 6 points.
Lalith Babu played the white side of English opening and
the game transposed into a Moroczy bind structure were
Lalith got space advantage and launched a kingside
attack with g4. Pavlovic did not defend correctly and
sacrificed a pawn for unclear compensation. Lalith kept
up the pressure and with a series of forcing moves won
an exchange when Pavlovi decided to give up. A win in
the last round over GM Sanikidze would mean a GM norm
for Lalith

Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to
