12 member Indian team got off to a good start with most
of the players winning their games in the opening round
of the NK open being held here at Dieren. 93 players are
competing in the tournament with latest sensation Anish
Giri heading the challenge from the youngsters.
In a game between Indians, Padmini Rout was held to a
draw by in- form Harini in a mini surprise from the
opening round. Playing black side of Sicilian Najdorf,
Padmini went ambitious by playing early g5 which was met
by a piece sacrifice in the center by Harini. Harini was
up a pawn for most part of the game but Padmini defended
well to make a draw.
In the main upsets of the day, local hero GM Timman was
held to a draw by unfancied Remco Sprangers of
Netherlands. Top seed local GM Sipke Ernst, GM
Reindermann, were the other GMs who were also held to a
draw.

advance. We therefore request all the organizers / State chess
associations to send their Bidform along with prescribed fee to
organize any FIDE rating events, 45 days in advance to All India
Chess Federation for onward submission to FIDE and enable us to
