Refresher Course
Report - R. Anantharam
The
All India Arbiters Refresher Course, organised by the Nilgiris
District Chess Association at St. Jude's Public School,
Kothagiri on 4th and 5th April was a grand success, as arbiters
from different parts of the country congregated for a beneficial
interaction. A total of 66 arbiters, from Tamil Nadu, Delhi,
Maharashtra, Kolkata, Gujarat, M.P., Chandigar and Karnataka.
took part in the event.
Mr.
K. Muralimohan, Rating Officer, AICF and Prof.R. Anantharam,
both international arbiters delivered lectures mainly on the
important changes in FIDE, effective from 1st July, 2009. In
addition to that, Mr. Muralimohan briefed the participants about
the salient features of manual pairing, as the arbiters have to
be thorough with the principles of pairing. Anantharam discussed
the important aspects of the tournament rules. Mr. N.K.
Nandakumar, FIDE arbiter and Development Trainer elaborated the
new method of registration of players online and the role of the
arbiters in it during the tournaments. Mr. Vijayaraghavan, a
FIDE arbiter explained the aspects of MonRoi and how to use them
to upload games live on internet. In the practical session, the
arbiters had a hands on experience with MonRoi and Silver
clocks.
All the arbiters felt that the entire programme was highly
useful, interactive and felt that it could have been extended
for one more day. They enjoyed the salubrious and pleasant
climate of Kothagiri. St. Jude's Public School, a school with
international reputation, played the part of an excellent host,
providing a comfortable stay and sumptuous food to all
participants. Mr. Premanand, the Secretary of the Nilgiris
District association and his team deserve kudos for organizing
such an useful clinic
