Indians Ahead In Three Sections

Indians are in sole lead in three of the twelve sections in the World Youth Chess Championship which is happening at Vung Tau in Vietnam on Oct 27.

IM B. Adhiban of Chennai has established a one point lead in the Boys Under 16 section and so has Padmini Rout of Orissa done in the Girls Under-14 section.

Vidit Gujrathi, India's sensation in the Commonwealth Championship is on song in the Boys Under-14 section where he is ahead by half a point.

Besides, India is in joint lead in the Girls and Boys Under-12 sections via Bodda Pratyusha and Sayatan Das. Three rounds remain to be played. At most, India can win five titles based on current trends. Our biggest title strike was five in 2006 at Batumi in Georgia.

Boys Under-18: GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong of Vietnam leads with 7/8. India's IM Ashwin Jayaram is tied for the sixth place with 5.5 points.

Boys Under-16: After losing two half points to other Indians, IM B. Adhiban beat fellow Chennai mate S.P. Sethuraman to lead this section on 7/8. Fifth seed Adhiban enjoys a one point lead and takes on the top seed Russian on Tuesday. Debashis Das and K. Priyadarshan are along the players tied for the second place on six points.

Boys Under-14: Vidit Santosh Gujrathi of Nasik is leading this section with seven points from eight rounds. Second seed N. Srinath of Chennai is on 5.5 points and tied for the eighth place.

Boys Under-12: Tenth seed Sayantan Das of India is leading this section along with FM Yang Darwin on USA with seven points from eight games. Second seed Shiven Khosla and eleventh seed Shardul Gagare are tied for the third to ninth places with six points.

Boys Under-10: India's second seed Diptayan Ghosh is on 6.5 points and is tied for the second-third places after eight games. Duda Jan Krzysztof of Poland is leading with seven points.

Boys Under-8: Vietnam's Tran Ming Thang is leading this section with seven points after eight rounds. India's second seed Abhimanyu Puranik is tied for the ninth place on 5.5 points.

Girls Under-18: R. Preethi of Madurai is on 5.5/8 and tied for the fourth place. India had won this section in 1999 and 2006 thanks to great performances by Aarthie and Harika.

Girls Under-16: This is one rare section our players are not performing great. A. Niji of Kozhikode is on 5/8. Pon N. Krithikha of Chennai and Bhakti Kulkarni of Goa have let us down with only 4.5/8.

Girls Under-14: Padmini Rout of Orissa has established a one point lead in this section with 7.5/8. Shalmali Gagare of Shirdi and J. Mohana Priya of Chennai are tied for the third place on six points.

Girls Under-12: Bodda Pratyusha of Andhra is figuring in a three-way tie for the lead on 6.5/8. Sonakshi Rathore (5.5) and P.V. Nandhidhaa (5) was much behind her.

Girls Under-10: M. Mahalakshmi of Chennai is tied for the fourth to eighth place with six points.

Girls Under-8: Prathima Bansi is on six points and tied for the third place in this second. India had won this section in the past two years through Ivana Furtado of Goa.
