G.V. Sai Krishna of Andhra Pradesh and J. Saranya of Tamil Nadu won the VIT University National Under-13 Boys and Girls Chess Championships that was held from Nov 13-22 at the VIT University in Vellore.

It was the second title for both as Sai Krishna has won the National U-9 at Chennai in 2005 and Saranya had won the National U-7 at Lucknow in 2003. They received the trophy and Rs.10,000 each for scoring 9.5/11 each in their respective sections.

A record 410 players took part in this event. Each time Anand wins the World Title there is an entry record in the age group events in the coming months. On course to the title, third seed FIDE Master Sai Krishna scored wins against top seed Sahaj Grover of Delhi and Fenil Shah of Ahmedabad. He lost to Narayanan and drew one final round game against Shiven Khosla. Shiven of Mumbai remained undefeated.

J. Saranya overcame all players and had no problems in her games. In the final round, having won the title with a round to spare she lost to P.V. Nandhidhaa, her state mate. She started as the top seed.
