National Under-15 Chess Championship at Mangalore

Mr Sameer Salgaokar, Vice president of All India Chess Federation and also the president of Goa Chess Association inaugurated the “BSNL 34th National Sub junior and 25th National Sub Junior girls Chess Championship 2008” today in mangalore organised by south Kanara District Chess Association on behalf of All India Chess Federation. In his inaugural talk, he said “All India Chess Federation is doing its best and supporting the chess talents in all possible ways. AICF is proud to have associations like SKDCA which conducted four national selections events in one calendar year. AICF will certainly extend any help if SKDCA come forward to conduct any National events” The principal General Manager of Dakshina Kannada Dist BSNL, Sri Thirunavakkarasu, released SKDCA’s 2009 Calender and said “BSNL is happy to be associated with SKDCA and is prepared to support for future events also”. BSNL is the main sponsor for the event.

Sri Harikrishna Ponaroor released the 2009 dairy brought out by SKDCA. President of United Karnataka Chess Association Mr. Achuthananda Reddy and General secretary Mr Hanumatha R, President of D K Zilla panchayat Mr Sucharitha Shetty, secretary of Subramanya Sabha sri Karan Rao Bille spoke on the occasion and all appreciated the efforts of SKDCA in promoting the chess in the district and in the state.

Hon, President of SKDCA Mr. M R Vasudev in his presidential address explained how the committed team of SKDCA trying hard for smooth functioning of this prestigious tournament. Mr Sameer Salgaonkar honoured the Under 12 Asian Champion Girish A kaushik. Under 10 World School champion Arjun Bharat, Manasa and Nihal Manjunath. He also honoured the World Champion in team event Mr Srikrishna Udupa by giving cash awards. President of SKDCA Mr. M S Gururaj welcomed the dignitaries and Secretary Mrs Lidia D’Cunha proposed the vote of thanks.
