Anand Leaves For Spain

World Champion and World No.1 ranked Viswanathan Anand left Chennai this morning for Spain to compete in the Leon Rapid Chess Tournament in Spain from early June. He was accompanied by his wife Aruna Anand.

The 1969-born NIIT Brand Ambassador who had been in India for over a month was largely training and following events like the MTel Masters, Sofia. A few hours before his depature, his parents-in-law and parents visited him to wish him luck in the next four events.

After Leon, Anand will be defending his title at Mainz in the Chess Classic and then go on to play in the Bilbao Tournament in September before defending his world chess crown against Vladimir Kramnik at Bonn from October 14-November 3.
