Aronian Wins Amber Tourney

Levon Aronian of Armenia won the Amber Tournament with a round to spare on March 26 when he made two draws against World No.1 rated Vladimir Kramnik of Russia in the tenth and penultimate round. Aronian
won the Amber Tournament and the rapid section as well in Nice, France. In the blindfold section, he is in joint lead with Kramnik and Morozevich on 6/10.

Anand scored a brilliant win over Gelfand with the black pieces in the blindfold game but lost the rapid game with the white pieces. He moved to ten points from 20 games and takes on Van Wely in the final round. Anand improved to share the sixth place.

Aronian leads with 13.5/20 and is followed by Kramnik, Topalov, Leko, Carlsen on 11 points. A 2-0 sweep can still give Anand a third place.

There is a prize fund of Euro 216,000 to be won for the 12 players after the final round on Thursday at Nice. This blindfold and rapid chess tournament is organised by Association Max Euwe and sponsored by Dutch billionaire J.J. Van Oosterom.

The tenth round results (blindfold): Ivanchuk lost to Mamedyarov, Van Wely drew with Topalov, Gelfand lost to Anand, Karjakin drew with Morozevich, Aronian drew with Kramnik, Carlsen drew with Leko.
