Amber Tournament At Nice From Today
The 17th Edition of the Melody Amber Rapid and Blindfold Chess Tournament
starts at Hotel Palais de la Mediterranee in Nice, France from today.
World champion Viswanathan Anand and World No.1 Vladimir Kramnik of Russia
are among the 12 players who will play in this double all play all from
March 15-28.
The twelve players will face each other once in a rapid chess game and
another blindfold encounter. It is a huge prize fund and appearance fee
event.
The event which used to take place at Monte Carlo has been moved closer
and easier for the players at Nice. It also boasts of an all-time strong
field. Eleven of the world's top 14 players are present along with of
course Loek Van Wely of the Netherlands. The sponsors and organisers are
Dutch.
The show will be organised by Association Max Euwe and sponsored by J.J.
Van Oosterom, the retired Dutch billionaire who runs it after his daughter
Melody Amber.
