Sahaj Grover Makes Final IM Norm

By Arvind Aaron

Teenaged Sahaj Grover of Delhi made his third and final International Master Norm at Balatonlelle, Hungary to qualify for this title today.

Grover had made his first International Master norm in the Commonwealth Championship at Delhi and the second norm at the Reykjavik Open in March this year. His latest norm with a 6/9 score comes with a round to spare in style.

In the 26th Balatoni Chess Festival in Hungary, 1995-born Grover made his third IM norm on 6/9 and finally finished on 6/10.

He is keeping the Indian next generation of players in the hunt for high titles. Sahaj Grover had won the World Under-10 title three years before.

This achievement is great news for Indians and those following age-group chess. For Delhi chess it is very special. He is trained by Gurpreet Pal Singh, Vishal Sareen and Dinesh Kumar Sharma.

"He is playing in France next and then in the World Junior. I expect him to become a grandmaster in the next one-one and a half years at maximum," said Gurpreet Pal Singh his coach.
