India has fielded the second largest contingent of 46 players, next to Iran (50), the host country in the Asian Youth Chess Championship, which started at Tehran, Iran today. Of the 46 players, prominent players Fenil Sha (U14) and R.A. Pradeep Kumar (U16), G.K. Monnisha (U10 girls) were on the losing side. Top seeded Padmini Rout (14 girls), second seeded R. Preethi (U18 girls) and Debashish Das (U18) and three others had to be content with draws. All the three IMs in the entire championship, playing in the U16 category, hailing from India had splendid victories in the first round
