Srinath Retains Title

The month July 2008 appears to belong FIDE Master Narayanan Srinath of Chennai. Only last week he won an International Master Tournament at Czech Republic. From July 7-15 he played and won the 7th Dubai Junior Championship with an undefeated score of 8/9.

Sponsored by the Sun Group of Delhi, Srinath, a former World U-12 champion has an enviable record at Dubai in this event. He won the Under-10 section in 2004 and Under-12 section in 2006. In 2007 and now 2008 he won the main Dubai Junior event with seven wins and two draws and no losses.

Srinath started as the top seed and won seven games in a row and took two draws in the end to register a 8/9 win in a 136-player tournament. Among his wins were against WGM Mona Khaled (Egy), WFM Meri Arabidze (Geo). He drew FM Ulvi Bajarani (Aze) and Pouya Idani (Iri) in the last two rounds
