Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan joined Magnus Carlsen of Norway and Levon Aronian of Armenia in the lead with a fifth round win over Pavel Eljanov. They are playing the Corus Chess Tournament at Wijk aan Zee on January 17.

Five-time champion Viswanathan Anand remained calm with a quick 20-move draw with the black pieces against Aronian from a Semi-Slav. Anand had defeated Aronian at Mexico with black in the same opening.

Eight rounds remain to be played in this category 20 event which has an average rating of 2742.

In the Grand Master Group B, Harikrishna played a draw with black against Movsesian (Cz) to move to clear second place on 3.5/5. In the same group, Humpy made a draw with white against Sargissian (Arm) to move to 1.5/5.

Parimarjan Negi had recovered from the poor start which was a continuation of form from the Asian Junior at Mumbai. He scored victory number three in a row after two successive defeats. He is on 3/5 after defeating Anna Ushenina of Ukraine easily with white.
