Magnus Carlsen Playing At 2922!

Magnus Carlsen of Norway defeated Judit Polgar of Hungary to wrest a half point lead with 4.5/6 in the Corus Chess Tournament at Wijk aan Zee on January 18. Carlsen score his third win and is playing at 2922 Elo.

World champion Viswanathan Anand accepted an early 18-move draw offer from fellow 1969-born Ivanchuk with the white pieces. Anand is on 2.5/6 and faces Judit Polgar with the black pieces.

Kramnik recorded an important win against Aronian with the white pieces. This win will redefine the endgame concept that the stronger side can win a rook and pawn ending with pawns on the bishop and rook file.

At the start of the sixth round on Friday, all players in De Moriaan, over 1000 of them stood in silence for the demise of Fischer. Seven rounds remain to be played.

Harikrishna lost to Jan Smeets with white to slide from second place to joint fifth place with 3.5/6 in the Grand Master Group B. Humpy drew Cheparinov to move to 2/6 and share the eleventh place. She is also playing in the category 15 Group B.

Parimarjan Negi's winning spree was halted in the category 10 Grand Master Group C. He was defeated by Friso Nijboer of Holland. Negi is on 3/6 and shares the eighth place.
