World champion Viswanathan Anand arrived in Morelia, Mexico to defend his Linares Title there from Feb 15-Mar 8. The eight player double all-play-all will first start at Morelia in Mexico from Feb 15 to 23 and the second half will be held at Linares in Spain from Feb 28-Mar 7.

The players include World No.1 Vishy Anand who has a rating of 2801. Former world champion Vladimir Kramnik never plays in Linares after he was paid less than Kasparov in one of the earlier years. Vassily Ivanchuk, of Lvov, Ukraine will be Anand's main opponent.

Anand won Linares first in 1998 and then again in 2007. He has also had memorable match wins against Ivanchuk at Linares in 1991 and Adams in 1994.

The field is the strongest tournament of the year with a category 21 line-up. Winning the 2007 Linares event helped Anand become the top rated player in the world since April 1, 2007.

The players include: 1 V.Anand, 2 V.Ivanchuk, 3 V.Topalov, 4 P.Leko, 5 T.Radjabov, 6 L.Aronian, 7 A.Shirov, 8 M.Carlsen.
