Daklia Among Leaders
By Arvind Aaron
Five players including J.S. Daklia of Chhattisgarh are leading the St Joseph's
National Under-25 Chess Championship with full three points at the end of the
third round at Chennai on December 17.
Daklia trooped his queen into enemy territory to win material and defeat FIDE
Master Nitin of Salem, Tamil Nadu. Daklia shares lead with top seed R.R. Laxman,
Deep Sengupta, C. Praveen Kumar and Karthikeyan. All have posted all-win record
so far.
Former Asian junior champion Karthikeyan of Chennai won a super game against
Nimmy George of Kerala leaving his queen to be captured in a brilliant miniature
game.
Deep Sengupta of Kolkata representing his home state, Jharkhand, spotted a
tactic to win a rook for night in combinational fashion to down V.A.V. Rajesh of
Chennai.
Laxman's win over Navin Kanna came with superior play in the level rook ending.
Six rounds remain to be played.
