Anand Wins Mainz Again

World champion Viswanathan Anand won the Mainz Chess Classic rapid chess tournament by winning the 4-player rapid tournament on August 3, 2008.

Anand beat Magnus Carlsen (Nor) 3-1 after topping the all-play-all qualifier with 4/6.

Anand had defeated World No.2 Alexander Morozevich of Russia twice and drawn both games against Carlsen and Judit Polgar in the all-play-all.

The 1969-born Brand Ambassador of NIIT comes from Chennai and also lives in Madrid and Frankfurt. Anand had won this event eleven times. It is organised well by Hans Walter Schmitt of the Chess Tigers from Frankfurt.

Anand plays next in a classical chess tournament in Spain in September before defending his world title against Kramnik at Bonn from October 14.
