Anand Pushes Kramnik To No.2

Viswanathan Anand is alone on top of the world after his recent success in the Morelia-Linares Inter-contintal Tournament triumph earlier last month.

Moving to 2803, Anand, the NIIT Brand Ambassador, Chennai born player is on top of the world alone. In April 2007 he became the top player for the first time. He was also No.1 for July 2007 and October 2007. In January 2008 he shared the No.1 place with former world champion Vladimir Kramnik.

Now, Anand is alone on top of the world. He is No.1 alone for the fourth list in one year. Anand will be defending his world title against Kramnik from October 14 at Bonn this year.

Anand is ahead of the rest by a wide margin of 15 Elo points. Anand had been in the 2800-club earlier. He upped his rating from 2799 to 2803 while Kramnik lost eleven Elo from 2799 to 2788 and take the second place. Among other developments, teenaged Magnus Carlsen of Norway climbed into the top ten taking the fifth place at 2765.

P.Harikrishna of Hyderabad moved to 40th place on 2679 and on the same Elo occupying place 42 is Krishnan Sasikiran of Chennai.
