Nguyen Thi Thanh An of Vietnam and HUang Qian of China are leading the 12th Asian Women Championship at the end of the fifth round on September 7.

The Asian Women's Championship is a 32-player nine round tournament happening at Tehran in Iran from Sep 2-12.

Two Indians, national women's champion Tania Sachdev of Delhi and Nisha Mohota of Kolkata are among the six players who are tied for the third place with 3.5/5. Aarthie Ramaswamy is a further half point behind on three points. Four rounds remain to be played.

Results (round five): Huang Qian (Chn) bt Ruan Lufei (Chn), Tania Sachdev (Ind) drew Nisha Mohota (Ind), Shayesteh GhaderPour (Iri) drew Aarthie Ramaswamy (Ind), Shirin Navabi (Iri) drew Eesha Karavade (Ind), Wang Xiaohui (Chn) lost to Swati Ghate (Ind), Amruta Mokal (Ind) bt Mona Salman Mahini (Iri).
