Anand Maintains Lead After Draw Against Kramnik

World No.1 Viswanathan Anand maintained his sole lead with a draw against Vladimir Kramnik from the black side in the FIDE World Chess Championship Tournament being played at Mexico City on Sep 24.

A hard fought 41-move draw left the Indian one point ahead of the rest of the seven players in the double all-play-all. Anand leads with 6.5/10. Boris Gelfand of Israel keeps the second place with 5.5 points.

Levon Aronian scored the only win recorded in round ten. He replaced Alexander Grischuk in the tied group of players for the third place by defeating him. Aronian, Kramnik, Leko  are on five points. Four rounds remain to be played. Anand faces Morozevich next with the white pieces.


The results (round ten): Vladimir Kramnik (Rus) 5 drew Viswanathan Anand (Ind) 6.5, Boris Gelfand (Isr) 5.5 drew Peter Leko (Hun) 5, Levon Aronian (Arm) 5 bt Alexander Grischuk (Rus) 4.5, Peter Svidler (Rus) 4 drew Alexander Morozevich (Rus) 4.5.
