India Gets Silver In Classical Chess

Second seed India won the silver medal in the 2nd Asian Indoor Games Classical Chess Team event at Macau on October 30.

Top seed China beat India 3-1 to win five matches and draw Vietnam and take the first place and gold medal. With four wins, one draw and a defeat to China, India took the second place or silver medal. Vietnam took the bronze.

In the encounter against China, Humpy defeated the world women's champion Xu Yuhua with white while Sasikiran, Ganguly and Harika lost to higher rated opponents.

India beat Jordan 3.5-0.5, Philippines 3.5-0.5, Indonesia 3.5-0.5, lost 1-3 to China, beat Qatar 3-1 and drew Vietnam 2-2.

All Indian players with the exception of Harika underperformed. Our scorers: Sasikiran 3.5/6, Ganguly 3.5/6, Humpy 4.5/6, Harika 5/6.

Final placings: 1 China, 2 India, 3 Vietnam, 4 Malaysia, 5 Kazakhstan, 6 Indonesia, 7 Philippines, 8 Mongolia, 9 Iran, 10 Iraq...21 teams.
