World No.1 Viswanathan Anand returned to New Delhi when his Lufthansa Jumbo 747 touched down at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday at 0100 hours from Frankfurt. A sea of people were waiting to see the world champion as he came out wearing a NIIT Cap.

Anand who won the World Chess title for the second time at Mexico City on September 29 is in the capital for two days before returning to home town of Chennai on October 17 at 1 p.m. Velammal School will run buses bringing chess players to the airport and also have their school band to drum up the noise the occasion deserves.

The Tamil Nadu State Chess Association is planning to have an identical reception like the one they had in 2000 when he first won the world title. Later, he will be taken in a open chariot driven by four horses with armed men riding it on the streets of Adyar in south Chennai until it reaches his Besant Nagar residence in Chennai.
